Aromatherapy for wellbeing and memories

Memories, we create them in different ways, and smell is one of the senses that make us feel and memorize events in life. We are to a part dependent on smell for our wellbeing, it says, in the Harvard medicine magazine. A smell can bring memories back that where from a long time ago, either good or not.

The way this works is that we sense a smell and I goes to the olfactory cortex that identifies it. At the same time, the fragrance also transport to the amygdala that generates emotion and the hippocampus that both creates and retrieves memories. Further, from there the memory gets stored.

So, using aroma candles and aroma oil lamps with essential oils, can easily trigger the good memories. Flowers, such as lavender can have a relaxing and soothing effect on the mind. Orange can be uplifting and bergamot soothing. Grapefruit can be calming, and so much more can be achieved with aroma.

In the Swedish evening paper Aftonbladet, you can also read about how both lavendel and lemon has shown to help with dementia. Aromatherapy is definitely a big area to explore and therefore I intend to dive deeper into this area. Tag along.
