Autumn time calls for potato cake

Nom om nom.. where did I learn to love to eat potato cake for breakfast? It was over ten years ago, in Carmel, in California. We were doing a tour around California. When we came to this quiet, a bit off and not as well known place Carmel by the sea, it was soothing to look at the beach, the surfers, to feel the wind blow in the face and the warm shine of the sun, and also, to have potato cake for breakfast.

Not far away, we had passed a famous golf course at Pebble beach and looked at the famous old Monterey cypress, possibly 250 years old.. growing there by itself on a big rock, in its own majesty. That was long ago.. and I can’t say I ate this potato cake as often as I would have liked to after..

.. but recently, I discovered the perfect potato for this, it’s Chérie, it was in “Linas Matkasse” (Lina’s Food Groceries Bag) that I tried them out.. and finally.. got hold of some again..

Since I had liked it so much we had asked for recipe, but I didn’t get into custom of making it. They said it was plainly teared potato with spices. I have tried making potato cakes with egg, milk and other, but was never fond of the potato taste kind of disappearing in that.. or that the potato cake wouldn’t hold together when I turned it over.. but now.. no worries..

This Chérie has a nuty taste, it’s moist and just pefect for this dish, just melts when you eat it.. gets crispy with real butter and oil in the pan. It’s a bit sweet and has a tone of chestnut, you can smell that while making your dish..

I made mine here with a bit of salt, and white pepper, but at times I also like to add sesame seeds. To that sour cream and caviar, both red and black, noom, you should try it! I bet it also would be good with parsely and red onion in very thin pieces.

Live life, enjoy!
